st. peter & st. paul’s church, swalcliffe

Swalcliffe VIllage Church Tower Appeal This is an SOS – an appeal to save our lovely Swalcliffe Church Tower, which is in desperate need of restoration. The Church is a distinguished landmark for many miles around as well as being at the heart of our village. Most of us probably see the tower from near or far every day – it would be sorely missed by all if we didn’t do something to preserve it now - and for future generations.

There has been a church here for at least 1,000 years and thanks to generous donations by the Wykeham family in previous centuries, we can be proud of its history and fine architectural features (it earns a full page description in Pevsner’s Buildings of England Oxfordshire guide). Now it’s our turn to do our bit…

The challenge is the church tower roof which is in urgent need of repair. We have been awarded a generous grant by English Heritage, but they expect us – everyone who lives in and around the village – to fundraise the rest of the urgent repair costs.
